Members of the Crystal Lakes VFD have volunteered to perform home assessments at the request of property owners interested in getting one-on-one advice on steps they can take to make their property as fire-safe as possible.
To ensure that you get the most out of the assessment, please download the CLVFD Defensible Space Assessment Checklist (see below) to rate your own property and perform the advised fire mitigation work before requesting an assessment. Department members can then assist you in determining if your property is as well-prepared as it can be, or if there are additional steps you can take to mitigate your exposure to wildfire.
If you find the checklist confusing or are uncertain of how to begin, you may request an assessment without having done any fire mitigation work in advance. There is a place on the form to let us know that you want advice on getting started.
If you have questions, you may also use the form to ask a fire department member to contact you without requesting an assessment.
**Property owners must be on-site during the assessment.
Assessments are for the purposes of providing advice on fire mitigation only. They do not constitute a guarantee of either property insurability or survival in the event of a wildfire.
