Fire mitigation is an easy and effective step you can take to give your property a better chance of surviving a wildfire. Although some of the recommended steps involve removing some trees, others are as simple as cleaning your gutters and sweeping your deck. The Crystal Lakes Volunteer Fire Department is committed to helping community members understand and make the effort to perform effective fire mitigation on their properties.
Workshops on effectively mitigating the hazards surrounding your home and being prepared to evacuate in the event of a wildfire are held every summer, with dates announced in the spring.
In addition, the members of the Crystal Lakes VFD will perform home assessments to assist you in determining whether your home is as safe as it can be in the event of a wildfire. Please use the Assessment Request Form to arrange to have someone come to your property to meet with you about fire mitigation, or contact Marian Kelly at 970-881-2049 if you prefer to make arrangements that way.
If you are unable to attend a workshop, or prefer to learn on your own, please see the following links and documents for further information:
CSU Larimer County Extension Office Wildfire Preparedness Presentation - This Estes Park presentation is similar to the one held in
Crystal Lakes on Sept. 30, 2017. The information is substantially the same, although the local perspective offered by Fire Chief David Wolf, of Estes Park, is naturally focused on procedures in that
area.
