Minutes approved November 5, 2009.
The meeting was called to order by Marian Kelly in the absence of Ken
May.
MINUTES: Kate Kelly read the minutes of the September business meeting. Ray
Williams moved and Doug Blunt seconded the motion that the minutes be
approved as read and corrected. Motion passed.
OFFICERS'
MEETING: No report.
PERSONNEL: New at the meeting was Doug Race, representing himself and his wife Shirla. Kate
Kelly moved and Ray Williams seconded the motion that both Doug and Shirla
be accepted as probationary department members. They will decide what
roll they will play in the department at a later date. Motion passed.
EQUIPMENT:
Ray Williams reported that he has researched the availability and cost
of putting chevrons on the back of each truck. Members suggested
looking for reflective tape at Harbor Freight, in Auto Parts stores, and
on line from 3M. Also suggested was asking Chuck Glanz if he could
help. The cost may be high but these strips will be required in the
future. Doug Blunt pointed out that the point of the chevron must be at
the top.
Ray Williams now has a base station radio installed at his house and is
willing to relay messages during incidents and make the station
available when he is away from home. He will train personnel to use the
station.
Since it is October, Jody Sandquist suggested that the trucks should
have snow chains installed. Marian reported that Ken May was buying a
hydraulic jack and jack stands to make the job easier.
Doug Blunt requested a new battery for his radio.
COMMUNICATIONS: None.
TRAINING: Marian reported that October training may be sparse due to the First
Responder Training taking place all month. First Responder training
will be held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday during October
beginning on Oct. 4th. Monday training will be in the Restaurant and
Wednesday and Friday training will be in the Wapiti room. Marian will
email everyone about any further training.
SAFETY: Jody reported that a rumor is going around about snow plowing.
Normally firefighters do not automatically have the association plow
their drive. In the case of 3 or more feet of snow the association may
plow out a few firefighters for safety reasons.
Also it was requested that fire department business not be discussed in
the Office as Marian is working for the association at that time.
Jody reminded everyone to lower the water level in their water bottles
now that the cold weather is here so they won't break when they freeze.
The swine flu is here, so everyone should get a shot and stay home if
they are sick.
Kate requested putting larger lights on the traffic
control cars. It was okayed and suggested that they be included in a
grant request. Reflective vests for everyone on the department should
also be put on a grant request.
FIREWISE: Jody
reported that a new radio transmitter is on order to better facilitate
interaction with the sirens. It should be here soon.
MISCELLANEOUS: Mike Schrodt requested that when filling water tanks on the trucks do
not overflow the tank. It makes a sheet of ice around the well house,
which is dangerous.
Marian Kelly reported that the bylaws committee will meet again in
November and hopefully be ready to present them to the department in
December.
Both Curt Livingston and Ken Sterling have given Marian CDs of the
department picutres. Sharon and Herb Cooper will take the frames Marian
and Kate purchased and put the pictures in them. Sharon will place a
group picture of the department in the next bugle.
Marian Kelly reminded everyone that nominations for department officers
take place in November and voting in December.
Jeanette Williams moved and Sharon Cooper seconded that the department
should invite community helpers to the department Christmas party as
guests, and present them with a shirt and hat at that time in lieu of
the $25 gift certificate. Motion passed.
Doug Race suggested that in the future we give shirts at the time of
the volunteered work.
The over abundance of aluminum cans was discussed. Doug Blunt reported
that the current price is very low and he was waiting for the price to
increase. Herb Cooper moved that the cans be sold at the current price.
Ray seconded the motion, which failed to pass.
Renee Patterson moved that Doug Blunt be left to decide when it is safe
and the price is right to sell the cans unless we ran out of storage
space. Jody seconded the motion, which passed.
Jeanette Williams reported that Sherry Alexander found the invoice for
the last purchase of CLVFD arm patches. There are only 18 left, which
will be used in December. Kate Kelly moved and Janet Schrodt seconded a
motion to purchase a minimum price break number of patches at this
time. Motion passed.
Jeanette also reported that someone tracked mud into the newly
renovated clean office and requested that people wipe their feet and
clean up after themselves. Jeanette moved and Doug Race seconded the motion
that the department buy a floor mat and boot scraper for the office.
Motion passed.
Jeanette reported that she has agreed to be the Board election officer
and that Sherry Alexander has reported our elections and procedures to
DOLA for the past years. Jeanette will train for the position and Ray
has an article in the Bugle about Board elections.
Mike Schrodt requested that everyone help clean up trucks after
incidents, in particular remove personal garbage.
Ray Williams is
scheduled to have a knee replacement on Oct 27th. Good luck and best wishes to Ray.
Tom Patterson moved and Renee seconded the motion to adjourn at 4:35
pm. Motion passed
Respectfully submitted,
Kate Kelly, Secretary
