Minutes approved June 4, 2009.
The meeting was called to order at 6:31 by Ken May. Ken reminded the
membership that the trucks would be exercised after the meeting so
everyone should go to the fire station. Truck inspection and exercise
will occur after all future business meetings.
PERSONNEL: None.
EQUIPMENT: Marian reminded everyone to turn in their inventory. The inventory work
day and barbecue was rescheduled for Sunday, June 7th starting at 4:30
pm. Spouses are welcome to come but may be put to work.
COMMUNICATIONS: Ken has had one of the radios donated by the Wiggins Fire Department
programed. They are ready for use. Alex reported that he has found
barely used narrow band radios for $160. These will be legal after
2010. Ken has mics and ear pieces available for officers. Marian can
now program pagers. Bob N. needs batteries for his pager.
TRAINING: CPR training books will be purchased from the FEMA grant. A count of
the number needed was taken. Since CPR training continues on Wed
evening there will be no training on Thursday but volunteers are needed
to remove the snow chains from the trucks. It was suggested that each
set of chains be labeled for the truck it fits, saving confusion next
winter. Marian requested that everyone check their CPR pocket masks to
see if they are still usable. They stiffen with sun exposure and age.
There are really small pocket masks available now. Marian will check
with Cheryl Poage for price.
Driver training and refreshment is needed. Ken and Alex will set up a
course on a Saturday. Everyone can train to drive the trucks. A page
will be sent to alert members to this training.
FIREWISE: The Firewise sirens will be demonstrated at the end of the Road and
Rec annual meeting. And again on the following morning. Thereafter,
they will be checked monthly in the silent mode. It was noted that if
you hear them in the future you are to evacuate immediately. They sound
for 3 minutes and rotate on their posts.
MISCELLANEOUS:
The members voted on their choice of color to paint the Fire Station. The option of brown with green trim won.
Jody reminded the membership of the annual flag raising
ceremony on May 23rd at 9am. It was decided to wear the denim blue
department shirt with the blue hat. Renee agreed to sing the national
anthem. The pledge of allegiance will be said. The community fund will
provide a US and CO flag. Two people are needed for each flag.
Ken May will host a CLVFD table at the Water and Sewer annual
meeting and Kate will host the table at the R&R annual meeting June
13. The membership agreed to allow the R&R Board to use the Fire
Station for booths during their annual meeting.
Marian asked the membership if the department wanted to sell
or give CLVFD patches to collectors. Alex moved and Jeanette seconded a
motion that the CLVFD not participate in these exchanges at this time.
The motion passed. Concern was expressed about the expense and possible
abuse of exchanging patches.
John Lang moved and Doug seconded a motion that the CLVFD
should have the US flag patch on the left shoulder of both the jackets
and wildland shirts. Motion passed. Ray and Jeanette will purchase the
patches.
A committee of Alex, Ken, John Doug, Jeanette, Ray, Chuck,
Sherry and Sharon was formed to compose lists of needed fire Station
repairs and material. The first meeting of the committee will be
Thursday May 14th following chain removal.
Kate will contact Sutherland Lumber yard for possible
donations of materials and Papa Johns for possible pizza donations. Ray
and Jeanette will contact Lowes and Home Depot. Ken will make sure
lists of needed materials are available prior to solicitation.
Doug moved and Janet seconded the motion to adjourn the meeting. Motion passed.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:23 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Kate Kelly, Secretary
