SOURCES
OF FIRE THREAT ASSESSMENT INFORMATION
There are many resources available on the web which can
help you
understand the level of fire danger currently experienced in the
Crystal Lakes area. Where are
we on these maps?
Fire Danger Map
The nationwide threat level for extreme behavior by wildfires is here:
http://wfas.fire.org/images/firedanger/fd_class.gif.
This is a highly accurate indication of the fire danger in our area.
1000-hour fuel moistures
The 1000-hour fuel moisture measures the moisture levels in standing
live trees, a good indicator of the overall dryness of the area. The
nationwide map of 1000-hour fuel moistures can be found here: http://wfas.fire.org/images/firedanger/fm_1000.gif
The Haines index
A determination of fire hazard based on the stability and moisture
content of the lower atmosphere (e.g. how the weather will affect a
wildfire), the current nationwide Haines index is available here: http://wfas.fire.org/images/firedanger/haines.gif
Remote Automated Weather Station (RAWS)
Data
from the RAWS station in Red Feather Lakes is updated several times a
day. For the Red Feather/Crystal Lakes area, temperatures above 75
degrees and relative humidities below 15% are indicative of hot, dry
conditions, in which the potential fire danger is high. This
information is available from: http://raws.wrh.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/roman/meso_base.cgi?stn=RFRC2
